There's something about the smell and sound of rain that  transports me back to my travels in southern Thailand. I was backpacking through the region during the monsoon season, when the heat and humidity were suffocating. But every so often, a massive downpour would come and cool everything off.

One particularly memorable rainstorm occurred while I was on a boat trip to Langkawi, a tropical island off the coast. We had a beach hut just 20 meters from the main road, and as the rain pounded the scorching tarmac, steam rose up from the ground.

It's like a divine mixture of soil, sea, and sky, all coming together to tantalize our senses. It's a moment of pure sensory delight, reminding us of the beauty and simplicity of nature.

As the scent develops, you get a hint of citrusy sweetness, shortly after a medicinal earthy petrichor emerges, bringing to mind the unique aroma of rain falling on dry soil.
